Beyond Forever

Once we were iridescent stars,

That fell across the sky,

In an immaculate radiance we burst,

And a billion years went by,

Suddenly we were in water,

And from single cells we multiplied,

Energy and entropy collided.

Thus was born complex life,

A billion more years passed,

Like crystalline waves on untouched glass,

As the first feet trampled the first grass,

As the constellations above shifted and sparkled,

Yet a few billion years we would have to wait,

For monkeys to grow bigger brains,

For oceans to rise and fall and rise again,

For volcanoes to erupt and the land to shake,

Lo! We soon acquired tools,

As farms and tribes grew,

As communities begin to form,

As the thinking man was born,

With thought comes feeling,

With feeling comes action,

With action comes progress,

With progress comes change,

Then all of life became one big stage,

And these silly games we started to play,

The first words uttered from human-like lips,

Was a cry for help lost among the leaves,

Now a decamillennial ago our eyes first met,

Though we didn’t have words for it then,

Into our hearts the faint stirrings of love crept,

A song from the stars played in our chests,

A hundred billion humans came and went,

A hundred billion faces yet only one mattered,

In waves of emotion the Earth shattered,

Generation after generation of a powerful pattern,

Of me finding you in every life,

Of your hand held in mine till the dawn of time,

Of an eternally cherished, heavenly smile,

Of different faces but the same old eyes,

Beyond forever our story is written,

Beyond the universe and fragmented space,

Beyond memory and time and fate,

Beyond everything, only love remains.
